Frederick Gore CBE, RA

Son of the artist Spencer Gore, he studied painting at Ruskin School of Art while reading Classics at Oxford. He later studied art at Westminster Art School and the Slade. Held his first London exhibition at the Redfern Gallery where he showed regularly for a number of years.

From 1946 to 1979 he taught at St Martin’s School of Art, becoming Head of Painting in 1951. He published a number of books on art.

His work is bold and direct with strong colour. He painted landscapes, town scenes and flowers but is probably best known for his French landscapes, particularly in the Bonnieux region.
