An abstract expressionist painter of principally Welsh scenes David Tress was born and brought up in London but with Welsh ancestry. He attended Harrow College of Art, Trent polytechnic (BA in Fine Arts) and moved to Pembrokeshire in his early twenties.
Works usually on paper with mixed media (acrylic, oil, gouache and crayon, whatever needed to get the desired effect). Also builds of the surface with scraps of paper and card. His paintings possess tremendous vitality and there have been many successful one-man exhibitions in Wales, France and London (Boundary Gallery) as well as with us here in the Cotswolds in 2005.
Works in Public Collections: National Museums and Galleries of Wales; The Contemporary Art Society of Wales; The National Library of Wales; Claire Hall, Cambridge; Dyfed County Council; County Hall Collection; Pembrokeshire Museums.
