Born in London, Wolseley was a figurative painter, trained at the Bushy School of Painting and at the Slade where won a scholarship. Stylistically, he was associated with the Newlyn School of Painters. He seldom signed his works (a group of his paintings came up for sale at Christie’s some years ago, a number of which were signed) and it has often been mistaken for the work of other artists. During the First Wold War he served in the Navy, and painted watercolours of ships and aeroplanes. After the war he became a fashionable portrait painter in Chelsea. He was made a member of the Royal West of England Academy in 1925. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and NEAC from 1909. | |
