Paintings Wanted

Selling your paintings through the gallery.

For many years, as well as representing living artists, we have acted as brokers for clients wishing to sell higher value works of art. We offer an alternative to selling at auction.

Our commission is comparable to that of the major auction houses, though we do not make a charge for illustrations in catalogues, or for insurance. Most paintings we handle under this scheme are of higher value and by well known artists, in a price roughly between £5,000 and £100,000.

We are pleased to consider paintings and watercolours from Victorian to the present day, and would first give a free assessment as to value and saleability before proceeding.

High value paintings recently sold on behalf of clients include, Sir Alfred Munnings, Myles Birket Foster, L.S Lowry, Alan Lowndes, Ruskin Spear, John Piper, Tristram Hillier, Sir Kyffin Williams, Ann Redpath, Alberto Morrocco, Sir William Russell Flint, Helen Bradley, Peter Samuelson, Dod Procter and P.J. Crook.

We are particularly interested in works by - Kyffin Williams, Alan Lowndes, L.S Lowry, Mary Fedden, James Tarr, Elizabeth Blackadder, Peter Brook & good 20s-50s paintings

Valuations and Appraisals

Valuations for insurance or probate - please contact the gallery. Appraisals: We are happy to give general, verbal assessments on items brought into the gallery. We regret we cannot give valuations or appraisals over the internet.

We regret that we are unable to market below standard, low value works or paintings by unknown artists under this scheme.

All enquiries are treated in the strictest confidence. For further information please contact: Brian Sinfield on 01993 824464 or by Email: gallery@briansinfield.com

Artist's Resale Rights (A.R.R)

Artists' Resale Rights (A.R.R), or Droit de Suite, became law in Britain on Tuesday 14th February 2006. This is a royalty, on a sliding scale from 4% to 0.25%, to be paid to living artists on the second or subsequent sale of their work. It clicks in at approximately £1,000 (anything below that is exempt). Most transactions will fall into the 4% bracket. The levy is paid to a central collection agency, in this case the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), who deduct their 15% commission and send the remainder to the artist. It applies to transactions through an auction, gallery or any other art market professional. It does not apply to sales between private persons, or on the first sale of an artist's work.
